Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has unveiled an additional RM100 million allocation to enhance security facilities along the northern border of Peninsular Malaysia. This strategic funding is set to significantly bolster the nation's defenses against illegal activities such as smuggling and unauthorized border crossings, ensuring the safety and stability of the region.
"This additional allocation is crucial for strengthening our border security and preventing illegal activities that threaten our national stability," stated Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the announcement. The funds will be directed towards upgrading infrastructure, enhancing surveillance capabilities, and improving the overall efficiency of border security operations.
Enhancing Border Security
The northern border of Peninsular Malaysia has long been a focal point for security concerns, given its proximity to neighboring countries and the potential for cross-border illegal activities. The RM100 million allocation will be utilized to upgrade existing security facilities, deploy advanced surveillance technology, and enhance the operational capabilities of border security personnel.
The Home Ministry (KDN) is playing a pivotal role in this initiative, with plans to develop a comprehensive master plan for national border security control. This master plan will focus on two strategic areas: strengthening national border security control operations and enhancing the capacity of national border control. The KDN has outlined a five-front approach covering the North (Kedah, Perlis, and Perak), East (Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang), South (Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor), Sabah, and Sarawak.
Leveraging Advanced Technology
One of the key components of the security upgrade is the implementation of the National Border Control System (NBCS), which aims to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) technology into border security operations. The NBCS will feature state-of-the-art surveillance systems, enabling continuous 24/7 monitoring and real-time information dissemination. This technological advancement is expected to enhance the efficiency of border security by providing effective object verification, reducing false alarms, and assisting security forces in decision-making processes.
Addressing Smuggling and Illegal Activities
The additional funding is also intended to combat the rampant smuggling of controlled and prohibited goods across the northern border. By enhancing surveillance and operational capabilities, the government aims to reduce the incidence of smuggling and other illegal activities that undermine national security and economic stability.
"The strategic focus on strengthening our border security will help us address the challenges posed by smuggling and unauthorized border crossings," emphasized the Prime Minister. The government’s commitment to upgrading security facilities and leveraging advanced technology underscores its dedication to protecting Malaysia’s borders and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
